Facebook bug exposed contact info of 6M users

Well this is a good article for me to read because I have facebook but didn't realize that a bug has affected 6 million users on facebook!  That's alot of users.  You have the option to put your email and sometimes your phone number is automatically populated off of your IPhone when its synced up to your facebook account.  Apparently the "Download Your Information" tool was exposing some peoples contact information that wasn't suppose to be shown.  For example if you downloaded your data, then some of your friends information that you weren't suppose to be privy to, was downloaded as well.  I sure hope I wasn't affected by this bug, and its a little worrisome that I never received notification of this security incident.  Supposedly if you were affected then you would receive an email letting you know you were affected and your contact information could be shared.  The article says that this isn't a real privacy concern because peoples contact information that was shared was to parties that already had your information anyways.

Supermoon captured by photo enthusiasts worldwide

The first article on CNET that interested me was the Supermoon article.  One of the airmen here mentioned that the supermoon was happening a couple days ago..I was like..whats a supermoon?  Ive never heard of it before!  Its the largest the moon will be in the next 14 months.  This happened yesterday and I did notice that the moon appeared larger...13% larger to be exact.

School Iris-scanned students without telling parents

"It sounds like a simple case of it's better to ask forgiveness than permission."  Ive heard this phrase alot in my career.  The article talks about kids coming home from school and telling their parents that they had to get their eyes scanned before getting on the school bus.  To say the least, parents were absolutely appalled that their kids were getting their eye balls scanned without getting notification before hand.  You would think that the school would AT LEAST send out a letter of notification prior to implementing this new policy.  Instead of sending a letter out before hand, they sent a notification out afterwards (hints the better ask forgiveness than permission) asking parents if they wanted to opt out of the scans for their kids.  If I was in their shoes I would be upset as well.  You would want to know why they are doing these scans..is it for accountability purposes?  Its not okay to implement a new policy and not let anyone know.  One of the district administers, for goodness sake didn't know who authorized the guy to inset the iris scanners on the school buses.  On top of that the proposed contract wasn't even signed.  You would think if work was being done to implement the iris scanners on the bus, that the contract would be signed and the appropriate people would have been notified.

U.S governement to propose bill targeting foreign hackers

    I decided to write my blog articles for this class from CNET.  I liked this site because all the articles seemed up to date and there were already multiple articles for June.  The FBI blog also interested me, but since its latest article was written back in May I decided I would use CNET for my future blogs.
    The article talks about how members of the House of Representatives are proposing a new bill.  The new bill doesn't have a name yet, but it will contain information on cyber hackers from China, Russia, Iran.  These are the countries, among others, that are constantly trying to gain our information then making it their own.  China is one of the biggies that is constantly denying their hacking.
    I found this article interesting because we are always hearing about China and them constantly pinging our network.  I wonder what we are going to do about it..what  do we have in place to protect us from this happening.  I'm not sure this bill is the answer, but it is suppose to deliver "real consequences and punishments."  We will see if anything comes from it!

Hello Class,

Welcome to my blog site.  I have to admit that I have never blogged before.  I havent even used Twitter, so this a new thing to me.  I like that you can choose your layout and also see peoples profile pictures if they have Google+.

Like I said in my introduction, I am in the Air Force and deployed to Afghanistan right now.  Its my first deployment and I am actually really enjoying it...though I cant wait to get back home.  I learned how to drive a stick shift out here, and Ive also learned how to finished the rubic cube. haha.  Being at work 7 days a week you have some extra time on your hands if its slow.  I am working night shift therefore its nice because I am kind of on the same time schedule as everyone back in the states except 9 and a half hours ahead of you.  As of 1 July we are suppose to go to MREs for midnight chow..which is going to stink because thats my lunch time!

Anyways, Im looking foward to this class and getting to know all of yall.
